Written and directed by Céline Devalan, and Pascal and Vincent Reverte, based on the novel by Marie-Aude Murail
Freely inspired by the life of Beatrix Potter, the creator of Peter Rabbit, Miss Charity présents a sharp but gentle gaze on childhood and the birth of an artistic vocation. Based on the novel by Marie-Aude Murail.
The story : Charity is a little girl bursting with curiosity, thirsting for words and longing to mix with other people, to create and to be part of the world. However, in the 1880s, a little girl born into privileged British society is expected to remain silent and discreet. « If need be, a little girl may be seen but never heard », her mother states. The adults around her do not pay any attention to her and her little sisters die at a young age. Charity takes refuge in her nursery, on the third floor of the house, where she tries to escape boredom dreaming about the day when True Life will begin…. She draws, keeps a diary, looks after injured animals and learns all of Shakespeare’s plays by heart. And, like Hamlet, she asks herself a lot of questions. But the clock that marks out the hours, brings few answers.
Hence, when a strange rabbit appears out of the blue, she jumps at this wonderful chance to escape with it….
